Hypnosis is a natural state of selective, focused attention with reduced peripheral awareness (blocking out sources of distraction) and an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestions, often accompanied by deep relaxation. In this state, a person is more open to suggestions, which can influence thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Hypnosis can occur naturally (like daydreaming) or be induced by a trained professional, often called a hypnotist or hypnotherapist. It is commonly used for therapeutic purposes, such as managing pain, reducing stress, overcoming habits (like smoking), or improving focus. Despite popular misconceptions, hypnosis does not involve mind control, and individuals remain aware and in control during the process.

Even though hypnosis is 100% natural and normal, it remains one of the most fascinating phenomena of the human mind. Our ability to enter this unique state of consciousness opens the door to countless possibilities for healing, self-exploration and change.
Hypnosis, called by different names in different cultures and times, has been recognized for thousands of years and used for many purposes.

Hypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis, as a therapeutic technique, to interact with the subconscious mind in an open-reflective process to create positive change in your life in the form of new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviors or feelings.
A person who is hypnotized displays most notably heightened suggestibility and responsiveness.

There are many techniques, many styles and many applications of hypnotherapy. They all have several things in common – a strong desire to change, a state of deeply relaxed focus, and use of language and visualization in relationship to emotions.
I always evaluate individual needs before I chose a tool or combination of techniques to help you achieve your desired goals.

FAQs

I understand that hypnosis can be perceived as a complicated subject.
To shed more light on this concept, allow me to answer some questions or concerns you may have before we work together.

Hypnosis is a very natural process of entering a state of deep relaxed focus. This helps your subconscious mind become more attentive and receptive to suggestions, and thus, be more open to positive change. With Hypnosis, we can create desired changes in behavior and encourage mental and physical well-being.

Many people are skeptical about hypnosis at first, but this is usually because they don’t have a good understanding of how hypnosis is used for healing. It is a legitimate therapeutic technique that has been used with proven success to treat or support treatment of medical and psychological disorders in millions of people. Anyone can be treated with hypnosis, and in most cases, it is a very effective form of therapy for many different concerns. Hypnosis is not a new or untested form of therapy. Called by different names in different cultures and times, it has been recognized for thousands of years and used for many purposes.

The benefits of hypnosis are limitless. Here are just few of the many areas that hypnosis can help you transform your life with – boost of confidence, motivation and self-esteem, end procrastination or self-sabotage, reduction of stress, anxiety and depression, pain control, pre and post-surgery, strengthening of immune system, optimum healing of acute and chronic illnesses, sound and restful sleep, weight loss, elimination of fears and phobias, elimination of undesired behaviours and habits (smoking, alcohol…), life issues, relationship and broken heart issues, enhancement of professional and sports performance, pass life experiences and more.

Hypnosis is a natural, though altered, state of mind. You enter some form of hypnotic state at least twice a day, while waking up and while falling asleep, and probably much more often than that, while driving a car, being deeply engrossed in a book or a movie or daydreaming. Through these activities, you temporarily block out other thoughts and the outside world. Therefore, most people with at least average intelligence and ability to concentrate can enter hypnotic relaxation easily, provided they want to.

No. Hypnosis is not sleep or unconsciousness. It is a comfortable and natural state of highly focused concentration. You can expect to remain fully aware of everything that occurs during your session. This means that you are completely awake, but your conscious mind is extremely relaxed and at the same time highly alert.

This is what scares people the most. They are terrified that if they submit to the relaxation of hypnosis and go fully into a trance-like state, that they will no longer be in control of themselves. In fact, they believe that they may easily be controlled by the person that is hypnotizing them.
This will never happen. You are always fully in control when you are hypnotized, and you can always hear what’s going on. Hypnosis is nothing but a state of relaxed deep focus and therefore no one can take control of you and make you do anything while you’re hypnotized unless you allow it.
This is another area of concern for many people who don’t know much about hypnosis. You can put your mind to rest.
No one can hypnotize you without your consent. If you don’t want to be hypnotized, you will not enter a hypnotic state. The process of entering a hypnotic state may take some time for your body and mind to adjust and reach desired depth of hypnosis. You can however stop the hypnosis session at any time if you are not comfortable or if you don’t want to be hypnotized.
You may have seen hypnosis done in movies or on TV where the hypnotist snaps their fingers and the other person immediately falls into trance, and is incapable of doing anything, but what they are told. That is not how hypnosis works.

Since you are completely in charge of letting yourself be hypnotized, your own mind determines how much or how little you wish to contribute to a hypnosis session. You can just as freely answer or not answer questions in a hypnotic state, as you do when you are wide-awake.

Absolutely not. Despite what you may have seen on TV, hypnosis does not make you the slave of the person hypnotizing you. You will never do anything while you are hypnotized that you wouldn’t do under normal circumstances. You are in full possession of all your faculties, and you are more aware and more focused while being in a hypnotic state. You are free to reject or receive any suggestion at any time. All hypnosis is actually “self-hypnosis”, and no hypnotist can make you do anything that is against your values or ethics, or make you say, experience or reveal anything you don’t want to.
You must want the change, agree with the change, and then hypnosis becomes an instrument to help you make that change better, faster, and permanent.

It is impossible to become stuck in hypnosis. Since you are always in control and you are not unconscious, you are able to emerge from the hypnotic state anytime you desire. The number one job of your subconscious mind is to protect you, and therefore it is always alert.

You can also come out of this state when given a verbal cue by the hypnotherapist. Sometimes when you are prompted to come out of your hypnosis you may not feel like it, because what you are experiencing feels so good. When that happens, it may take you a few minutes to return to your normal awareness, but that is only because you want to stay to continue enjoying the experience, not because you are being forced to stay in it or because you can’t come out of it on your own. You are always in control, even when you are in a deep hypnotic state.

Hypnosis is perfectly safe. You are always in control of the situation and you are never unconscious. Unlike drug therapies, which may work or may not work depending on your body’s chemistry and the disorder treated, hypnosis has no possible side effects and in most people hypnosis always works. Hypnosis can very safely treat the physical and mental aspects of common problems like addictions and can help you break your physical and emotional dependence on overeating, smoking, drinking, drama, anger, or any other destructive addiction that you might have.

Yes, you can absolutely hypnotize yourself. You will need to learn the proper way to do it but once you’ve had some instructions, it is very possible and easy to hypnotize yourself. If you are trained, you can also use self-hypnosis between sessions with a hypnotherapist. This state of consciousness is similar to meditation, which allows for little extra relaxation, however with the right intention it may also help you speed up and strengthen the process of undergoing therapy.

It is however important to understand that self-hypnosis is not a substitution for clinical hypnotherapy. With use of self-hypnosis, you won’t get the expertise and therapeutic help that you would be getting from a trained hypnotherapist. Therefore, if you decide to use hypnosis to help you deal with anxiety, depression, or deep psychological issues, you should see a professional therapist instead of relying only on self-hypnosis.

Hypnosis isn’t a magic cure that will get rid of all your concerns at once. You will still need to address your medical and psychological issues one at a time, and over the course of several treatments, in order to see permanent results. It is possible that symptoms of one disorder that mimic symptoms of another disorder might go away with resolution of the first issue. But in general, you will need to tackle one problem at a time when you’re using hypnosis as a treatment.

Many issues can be addressed in just 1 or 2 sessions with noticeable results. For permanent resolution of most deep imbedded issues, it is however realistic to allow commitment to more than one session with a hypnotherapist.
For smoking cessation or for weight control and eating issues, an initial commitment of 3 to 6 sessions is strongly encouraged.

In most cases you reprogram yourself to release habitual patterns, which have been part of you for a very long time. Success is achieved through repetition and reinforcement of the positive suggestions until the new, improved behavioural patterns are integrated into your life and routine.
